Michael Stull is one of those men women drool over. Handsome, sophisticated, and in top shape–it’s no wonder he was recently voted as one of the Super Men 2015 in Naples Illustrated, and before that listed among Naples’ Coolest Bachelors, the Magnificent 7 in Gulfshore Life Magazine 2013.
But beyond his good looks and admirable physique is a serious professional: a speaker and presenter, fitness and wellness consultant, exercise physiologist, personal trainer, model, and published author. Voted as one of the “Top 3 Personal Trainers in SW Florida” By Gulfshore Life Magazine, Stull is the author of Dominate Your Day: 365 Daily Motivationals for Your Health and Inspiration.
Stull graduated Magna Cum Laude from Heidelberg University with a double major Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management-Fitness, Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He has what are considered to be the top two accredited certifications in the fitness industry through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA): The Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) and the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credentials. He is a Certified Health Coach (CHC) through the National Society of Health Coaches (NSHC) and holds The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS) certification.
Stull strongly believes that “if you do not find time for health and wellness now, then eventually you will have to find time for illness.” He strives to avoid preventable illness proactively with a comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness through healthy eating, supplementation, physical activity and proper recovery.
Naples Noteworthy was honored to be able to ask Michael Stull a few questions for this month’s issue.
You just made the prestigious Super Men 2015 listing from Naples Illustrated. That’s got to feel good. Any comments about that? I feel extremely honored to be included with the other 6 hard-working men. I want to add value to the lives of others and share my passion for health and wellness and to be given the opportunity to do so through Naples Illustrated’s Super Men issue is a wonderful blessing.
What is your philosophy of life? I believe that what you put out there you will attract back in abundance. I want to spread positivity and motivation through my platforms and help others be better in all areas in life.
How did you come to be in Naples, Florida? I have family here in Naples and have visited once a year since I was a small boy. After college, it made sense to move here and start my career and future family.
Is spirituality/faith important to you? Can you share with us your thoughts on God? Faith to me is everything. It is my foundation in life. I am a Christian man. I believe in God and I am thankful for the gift of life every day I wake up. My favorite scripture is Romans 8:28; “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good, for those who love Him and those who are called according to His purpose.”
When did you first get interested in fitness—were you athletic as a child? I was into fitness even at a young age, being involved with sports my entire life. We always had to lift weights for sports and after playing college basketball, I decided to enter the fitness field for a career.
Do you feel it’s possible for anyone to get into shape or are some people just too far gone? It is NEVER too late to get into shape and make your health a priority. Beginner or advanced, moving your body and breaking a sweat will always lead to a better you. Trust me, you do not want to realize how important your health is by losing it. Make it a priority because your body is the only place you have to spend the rest of your life in.
Many people, every year, join fitness clubs or start routines with the goal being to get into shape. Many fail. Some succeed. What do you think the difference is between those who succeed, and those who fail? It comes down to priorities. If your health is a priority to you, you will spend time on making it better. If not, you will let it fall by the wayside. People quit in the first couple of weeks because sometimes the results take some time, however, be patient and know that you are doing a good thing by investing in your health!
You’ve written a number of articles and now you’ve come out with a new book. Not every fitness consultant chooses to write. Have you always enjoyed writing or is that something you’ve had to develop and push yourself to do? I have always enjoyed writing and was told by many teachers I had a gift growing up. I never took that feedback seriously; however, I kept writing. I realized writing gave me a platform to reach people and share my passion with them. It has led me to write a book that I believe in my heart, will change lives across the globe.
We noticed you are a stud. What is your personal routine? How do you stay in such great shape? LOL! I would not go as far as saying I am a stud, however, I do make my health a priority, hitting the gym consistently and eating healthy 80-90% of the time. I want to work hard and play hard and enjoy life. Do I eat chicken and broccoli every day and every meal? NO. I eat healthy consistently and when I want to enjoy one of my favorite dishes, I do so.
Where do you see yourself ten years from now? I’d like to be speaking all across the globe spreading the word of my book, “Dominate Your Day,” and sharing my passion for health and wellness with businesses and individuals across the world. I also would like to be a father and husband.
What would your advice be to someone who is out of shape and wanting to get into shape and lose fat/gain muscle? Where should they begin, starting out? Great advice for a beginner is to start drinking more water, cut out all sugars and start moving your body. That’s it. Try to start walking every day and cutting out sugars and you will look and feel better. After that, you can get into resistance training to build your metabolism and focus more in-depth on other areas of your nutrition plan.
Are you booked up or are you available to work with new people? I am always accepting new clients and businesses to work with.
What role does nutrition really play in fitness? Do you believe people should eat as little as possible when trying to get into shape or is that counter-productive? Nutrition is extremely important as we all know. You need to eat to BUILD YOUR METABOLISM, and this does not mean starving yourself. That is so false! A nutrition plan should focus on balance and not deprivation. I will say eating whatever you want and thinking you can burn it off at the gym is the worst thing you can do. You will simply be spinning your wheels in the gym! You should be focusing on lowering your inflammation in your body and that means eating health foods on a daily basis.
What kind of food do you like? I am foodie at heart. I love all foods!
Do you drink wine? Do you believe a little wine is good for health, or not? I drink red wine. The health benefits are there when consumed in moderation.
Give us an example of what you typically eat for breakfast. I love breakfast food. My breakfast is 3-4 whole organic eggs mixed with peppers, mushrooms, spinach and onions cooked in organic coconut oil and topped with an avocado. Yum!
Do you have a dessert food you can’t resist? I don’t have the biggest sweet tooth. But I do like any desserts with a peanut butter flavor!
What has challenged you the most so far in your career? What has given you the most pleasure? It is always a challenge to debunk myths people have believed for so long in the fitness and nutrition industry. People have believed things for so long due to media and other sources and what we need to do is continue to go back to science and what the studies show! Research is important. It gives me great pleasure to help others expand their thinking and help them improve their health holistically without medication and drugs.
If, going back in your life, you were forced to choose a different career path, what would it be? I’d pick the same career I am on. I love what I do and cannot imagine doing anything else.
Tell us a little about your new book. My book is called Dominate Your Day-365 Daily Motivationals for Your Health and Inspiration; a unique book being it is in a 365 daily devotional format. It is a one-stop-shop book for all things health, wellness and motivation. It is designed to improve your life in all those areas including fitness tips, workout tips, nutrition, supplementation, motivation, inspiration and leadership.
