Difference for Goodness™
Yes, Lewis has trademarked the phrase, but that’s because she’s serious about doing good in the world. When you step back and look at everything Lewis is trying to do, it’s quite astonishing. That’s why Naples Noteworthy has named Sheri Lewis the Best New Entrepreneur with Philanthropic Vision in Naples. We’re really hoping her products take off in a big way, because we love the vision she has for making a “difference for goodness” in the world. We think you will, too.
Sheri Lewis – An Entrepreneur with Philanthropic Vision
Sheri Lewis always knew she wanted to make a difference in the world. As the CEO and formulator of Green Difference™ Spa whole body products, she is on the path toward making that difference. She embraces a personal philosophy of “goodness”, or doing good in the world, that has permeated every aspect of her corporation from its inception to its long-range vision. What do organic skin care products have to do with doing good in the world? If you’re talking about Sheri Lewis and Green Difference Spa, then it has everything to do with it. It was the primary reason Lewis formulated and launched her own organic skin care and cosmetic product line–so that she could find ways to sponsor non-profit events that shed light on cancer, physical ailments, and human trafficking. A portion of her profit will go towards causes like these. In addition, Lewis is establishing her own non-profit corporations like DifferenceTogether™, FitDifference™, KidsDifference™, HealingDifference™, AnimalDifference™, DifferenceMusic™, and HopeDifference™.
Green Difference™ Spa
Lewis knew she needed a special product if she was going to see her vision become reality and be able to make a real difference in the world. She knew she needed one that would sell. Enter Green Difference Spa, a line of organic whole body products. But for Lewis, it wouldn’t make sense to do good in the world, if she didn’t do good by her customers as well. That’s why she spent so much time formulating an organic skin care line, one that would nourish and replenish the skin without adding additional harmful substances. We’re all for a company that’s out for our best interests, for once. We don’t mean to sound like a commercial–because that’s not what Naples Noteworthy is about. We’re all about shining a light on interesting people in the Naples community, people who are doing good in Naples and in the world. Lewis is one of those people. But all you have to do is look at the Green Difference Spa labels to see the difference.
Here’s the ingredient list on the label of the FacialDifference™ Cream Serum: Organic Aloe Vera Gel, Apricot Oil, Jojoba Oil, Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Neem Oil, Tropical Tamara Oil, Argan Oil, Borage Oil, Organic Green Tea Leaf Extract, C Ester, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Essential Antioxidant Sheri Beri Blend: Acai, White Grape, Pear, Blueberry, Kiwi, Vegetable Glycerin, Essential Oils of: Lavender, Bergamot, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Panax Ginseng Extract, Honey, MineralDifference (Sunscreen Complex, Blend of Iron Oxides, Zinc of Titanium) Xanthan Gum. I challenge you to look at the label of any skin care product you have and I’ll bet you won’t even be able to pronounce the list of ingredients–they will look like something from a chemistry lab. Honestly, we felt more relaxed just looking at the label. Let’s face it, Lewis could have crammed anything in the bottle, smacked a fancy label on it and sold it like everyone else. But she didn’t. And we also like that she actually knows her stuff. Lewis started working for Estée Lauder at the age of 19 and continued on in the health, fashion and beauty industry, becoming a licensed esthetician with a specialization in oncology esthetics. She literally searched throughout the world for the best ingredients, trying them all. Today, the all organic, food-grade, and earthy ingredients she has chosen give her unique products an edge. Her exfoliates are ground-up herbs, fruit, antioxidant, and clay — nothing chemically created.
Beyond this, we have actually tried the skin care line, and loved the products and the lack of fancy packaging–Green Difference Spa incorporates reuse and refill packaging technology to make a difference on our planet. We could tell the ingredients were real just by the scent alone. While we didn’t venture into the cosmetics, we feel sure those are on par with the skin care line. These are raw, organic apothecary ingredients. We’re not trying to be mean, but we usually don’t actually care if anyone sells their products…until we meet people like Sheri Lewis. Then, there’s a reason behind the product sales that we really do support–and we’ve discovered, in the case of Green Difference Spa, there’s a product here that’s actually worth trying. We’ll let you visit her website to find out how her cosmetic products, for instance, are actually good for your skin. These organic products can be found at Genesis Health Food Store by the counter, or ordered online at the Green Difference Spa website, www.green-difference.com, or by calling (888) 852-5045. We have a feeling Lewis will go very far with her products, and we’re genuinely glad, because we love the vision she has for making positive changes in the world.
Why Green Difference Spa Really Is Different
This isn’t just hype to make her company look good. We’re all savvy enough to know when some charities are backed by billion dollar corporations that it’s done more for their image than anything else. No, this was all being planned at the ground level, when Lewis was formulating her products. She knew then that she wanted to go in and rescue people from human trafficking, and she saw her organic skin care products as a way she might be able to actually do something to make a difference–starting with, at the very least, making people aware that there is a problem. “My ultimate goal,” Lewis confides, “is to go in and physically rescue girls and boys. This is something my husband and I have talked long and hard about–we’re dead serious about it. This has been a burden on my heart for a long time. The situation is out of control, and it’s getting worse.”
Why does Lewis want to make a difference–and why does she think she can? “It’s so horrific. That could be my daughter, or your daughter. It’s something I always knew I wanted to do something about,” she explains. “And I think when I came to know Christ, I became more empowered to actually do something.” We hope so…and we believe so, too. We think God’s hand is on this project. We’re encouraging Lewis to distribute literature with her products that informs people more about the vision behind the company–the vision we’re telling you about, because we think it’s a story people will want to hear about. We think if she could help even one girl caught in the web of human trafficking, she would be making a difference.
Henry Lewis and DifferenceMusic™
That’s right. Henry Lewis, the musician, and original owner of Burgundy Records. Now Lewis Sr., being a very talented musician, also suffered from bipolar disorder–which is sometimes found among those who are extraordinarily gifted creatively or musically. Bipolar disorder causes great variations in mood and energy–tremendous highs, called mania, often accompanied by intense periods of creativity, sleeplessness and wonderful productivity, followed by devastating cycles of extreme depression, utter hopelessness, and low energy, caused by neurological changes in the brain that affect energy levels in the body and distort perception and mood. People with bipolar disorder cannot simply “snap out of it.” They cannot help how they feel–and they tend to feel the world more intensely than others do.
People who have this disorder tend to be very attractive and charismatic, particularly when they are manic. Sometimes called the gift of divine madness, it is, on the one hand, a gift from God, but it carries with it a burden and responsibility–few people with bipolar disorder can manage the sheer agony of bipolar depression without help from the psychiatric community, good pharmaceutical intervention, prayer, and loving support from family, friends, and the Church. Many famous, intelligent, creatively gifted, extraordinary people are believed to have had bipolar disorder, including Alexander the Great, Marilyn Monroe, Vincent Van Gogh, Amy Winehouse, Friedrich Nietzsche, Vivien Leigh, Kurt Cobain, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Napoleon Bonaparte, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Abraham Lincoln, Isaac Newton, Ernest Hemingway, Elvis Presley, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Florence Nightingale, Leo Tolstoy, Mark Twain, Winston Churchill, Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato. Basically, many great and famous people throughout history were thought or known to have been bipolar.
Unfortunately, being bipolar also carries with it a higher than normal risk of suicide, and Henry Lewis took his own life when Sheri Lewis was around 15 years old. Now, as it happens, Lewis has her own daughter who is 15 now–Kaylyn Lewis, who is also going to be featured in Naples Noteworthy this month. Here’s a peek at Kaylyn. Can you tell who she got her voice from? That’s right. Kaylyn Lewis is the grand-daughter of Henry Lewis…and you can tell it as soon as you hear her sing. The fact that Kaylyn is just about the same age Sheri Lewis was when she experienced the trauma of her father’s suicide–which she witnessed–has really made Sheri see the grace of God working now through Kaylyn, especially now that something exciting is happening this summer with Kaylyn’s music. It started when Lewis was approached by Les Wicker, the pastor of First Congregational Church of Naples, who asked Lewis to be part of the leadership of the church. “At first, I wasn’t sure I could accept,” Lewis confessed. “I am so busy, you see. But God really put on my heart the idea of a Revival, to start a contemporary worship service to help with church growth. I felt I should involve the youth of the church and create a band, DifferenceMusic, for the praise part of the Revival contemporary worship service. They would play praise music for about 40-45 minutes at the start of each service. There are a number of young people at the church who are especially musically gifted, and after I prayed about it, I really felt like I could incorporate DifferenceMusic into my own vision, as well. Pastor Les accepted the vision of the contemporary service and felt like it was Spirit-led.” DifferenceMusic will lead the worship music part of the new contemporary worship service at First Congregational Church of Naples starting in September.
“Watching Kaylyn sing with DifferenceMusic, singing for Jesus, I can see God moving–I can even see my father,” Lewis explains. “There’s powerful healing in it. She’s just the age I was. But whereas that was tragic, this is a beautiful thing. God is showing His grace…through music, though the same gift He gave to both of them. The fact that all this is happening now, just the timing of it, feels auspicious. We feel like maybe it’s a sign that everything we’ve been working so hard for is about to really come together. At the same time this was happening, we found out my father finally got credit for being the original owner of Burgundy Records. It was like a confirmation that what we were doing with this Revival and DifferenceMusic was the right thing.” The traumatic experience of her father’s suicide was one of the factors that initially prompted Lewis in her decisions to form sister non-profit companies like HealingDifference and TherapyDifference, which focus on healing of the mind and body through appropriate therapies and modalities, and KidDifference, which encourages youth to get involved in their communities, doing good work. KidDifference is headed up by Kaylyn and Alexis, Lewis’ daughters, who organize volunteer projects in the Naples community. Lewis understands the healing power of music and knows firsthand that when her father was doing music, he was at his best. Music, and the arts, are therefore an important part of mental wellness, and Lewis strongly supports music and the arts. DifferenceMusic, the new band which her daughter Kaylyn is now part of, and which will be leading the new contemporary worship service at First Congregational Church of Naples, will be doing fundraisers for various organizations, including those that support keeping music in schools.
YogaDifference™…Love in Christ
“Faith,” Lewis says, “is a big part of my life.” It’s what has kept her going during the challenges of life, those challenges and storms that we all go through. And her relationship with Christ has permeated all aspects of the Lewis Enterprise. For instance, Lewis started out as a fitness guru with a specialization in yoga. While living in Hong Kong, she visited the Po Lin monastery on Lantau Island at the age of 17 and was inspired to learn the art of meditation and yoga. When she became Christian, however, Lewis found that she did not accept the philosophy she had been taught accompanying traditional yoga, because she had a new understanding of the world. She began to view the postures and positions associated with traditional yoga through a different set of philosophical and spiritual lenses. Lewis developed her own way of honoring the body as the temple of God in a way that does not conflict with her Christian beliefs, and is now writing a book on the subject, YogaDifference…Love in Christ. Some people reject the idea of Christian yoga, saying that it is impossible. But Lewis is adamant that we ought not to reject the good that’s available to us. There is nothing wrong with moving the body–in fact, God made the body to be moved and taken care of. The body is the temple of God. “The true meaning of yoga means yoke, to join,” Lewis explains. “Christian yoga means to yoke, or join, with Christ.” Lewis is the former owner of Deesse Organic Spa and Yoga studio in Naples, and is looking to begin teaching Christian Yoga classes again in the next year. You can find more information about that as it becomes available by liking her Facebook page here.
The Lewis “Up and Coming” Non-Profit Organizations
Lewis has spent the last five years buying domains and starting non-profit organizations that are aligned with her vision for making a positive difference in the world. Each of these organizations will start out by funding existing organizations that are doing good work in the area of their focus. DifferenceTogether™- This is an organization which seeks to expose the issue of human trafficking. Its first decision toward making a real impact in the world is to support the Joyce Meyer Hand of Hope missions arm, which rescues women from human trafficking and gives them a chance for a new life. HopeDifference™– This nonprofit supports cancer organizations and sheds lights on issues relating to oncology. KidDifference™– Headed up by the daughters of Lewis, Kaylyn and Alexis, KidDifference is about getting youth together to do volunteer work in the community. YogaDifference™ & FitDifference™– YogaDifference brings yoga instructors together to mentor people with debilitating conditions like cystic fibrosis so that they can have companionship while they exercise. FitDifference is a part of that, and will fund groups like the Special Olympics. It also evolved as way for Lewis to proclaim her faith in Christ while teaching the physical principles of yoga. AnimalDifference™– This non-profit organization, still in formation, will focus on pairing service dogs with good companions. Many dogs can be trained to become service and rescue dogs. HealingDifference™– An organization supporting healing of the mind and body, with a particular emphasis on educating people about mental illness, HealingDifference was founded in part as a tribute to Henry Lewis, the father of Sheri Lewis. DifferenceMusic™– This organization raises funds for various organizations, including those that value music and seek to keep music in schools.
Make A Difference
You can help make a difference in the world, too, by trying out the organic products offered by Green Difference Spa. Think of it this way. You could use any skin care line on the market. Or you could use one that’s organic, so it’s going to be better for your skin anyway and you know the company behind it is dedicated toward making a real difference in the world. So you’re nourishing your skin…and at the same time, you might be helping some girl thousands of miles away who has been trapped by the evils of this world, who thinks no one even knows about her situation. The choices we make, even something as small as deciding what skin care products we’re going to use–all of it has an impact on the world. So the next time you’re putting moisturizer on your face, ask yourself, “What is this doing for the world?” Green Difference Spa products can be found at Genesis Health Food Store by the counter, or ordered online at the Green Difference Spa website, www.green-difference.com, or by calling (888) 852-5045.
